About the CAD/E/M Group
![]() | |
LBNL's CAD/E/M Group provides computer hardware and software
support for Computer Aided Design, Engineering, and
Manufacturing activities within the Engineering Division.
Mechanical, Electronics, and Integrated Circuit Engineers and
Designers are supported by the group. These users utilize
state of the art design and analysis packages running on HP
Unix workstations and/or Windows/NT workstations.
The group is headed by James Osborn and is structured within the Software Engineering department. In addition to leading the group, James also heads the System Development unit within the group. Right now, this unit is heavily focused on NT development. Anita Whichard is spending much of her time on NT System Development; she also continues providing some Electronics CAD support. Sofia Mitina is our resident Systems Programmer and currently is hard at work with research and development for an Engineering Data/Document Control System. Martin Fong is the primary FEA support person in the group and spends most of his time doing FEA work directly for projects. The primary service in the group is provided by the System Support unit which is headed by Chuck Lawrence. This unit is responsible for system backups and handles the front-line problems across the board. Andrei Cogan, Rose Marie Forment, and Nancy Lewis report to Chuck and carry out much of the daily activities of the group, including hardware and software upgrades, operating system maintenance, and trouble shooting and repair for many user's problems. Doug Fritz heads the Mechanical CAD unit providing expert applications support, training, and development for Mechanical Engineering users. A similar position for Electronic CAD is envisioned to be filled for Electronics and Integrated Circuit CAD activities. Until now, it has been very difficult to find the right person to fill this position and for now it continues to be vacant. View the Organization Chart below to see how the group members are assigned.
