Special Characters in ME10 on the PC:

Special symbols in ME10 on the PC are extended ascii and cannot be typed on the keyboard directly.  An escape sequence must be used to access the extended characters.  Here are some examples of entering the special symbols when entering text on the command line.

'THIS IS SOME TEXT, AND HERE IS THE DEGREE SYMBOL: '#242

'THIS IS SOME TEXT, AND HERE IS THE DIAMETER SYMBOL: '#243

'THIS IS SOME TEXT, AND HERE IS THE PLUS/MINUS SYMBOL: '#254

If you want the symbol imbedded in a string, you can type things like:

  'MY HOLE IS '#243'0.5 INCHES'

  'MY TEMPERATURE IS 98.6'#242'F'

  'I AM 50'#254'10 years old'

To modify an existing string, use the EDIT CONV command in the text menu (or use the two-key macro ET for Edit Text which includes the convert option).  When in the ME10 editor, use the backslash plus three characters to include the special symbol.  The previous three examples will look like this:

  MY HOLE IS \2430.5 INCHES

  MY TEMPERATURE IS 98.6\242F

  I AM 50\25410 years old

When ME10 hits \NNN in the editor while using EDIT CONV, it will replace the whole sequence with the appropriate extended ascii character defined by NNN.
